70mins
The journey that turned Ernesto Guevara into Che, narrated by his traveling companion and childhood friend: Carlos Calica Ferrer. On July 17th, 1953, Ernesto Guevara de la Serna begins his second trip around Latin America. At the end of that journey he, together with Fidel Castro, would shock the world in leading the Cuban Revolution. Ernesto would then be known worldwide as “el Che”. His travel companion and childhood friend Carlos Calica Ferrer, recalls that trip which forever sealed the fate of Ernesto Guevara and Latin America.

Seventy years ago, two young childhood friends set off on a journey that would change their lives and the history of Latin America and the world. Their names were Ernesto Guevara and Carlos Ferrer.

This film is a journey across Latin America and also a journey into memory. It begins in Alta Gracia, Córdoba (Argentina), recalling Guevara and Ferrer’s childhood and teen years, before jumping to 1953 and the different places they visited in Bolivia, Peru and Ecuador, before going their separate ways in Guayaquil (Ecuador).

Ferrer remembers Guevara’s progress towards the revolution and both young men’s promises that they would meet again, until finally the news came of Che’s murder in Bolivia. We see how Ferrer found out, what he felt, what it meant to him and to this continent that they had both traveled across just a few years before.

Ferrer recalls how they came across a Latin America of great social contrasts, the adventures and scrapes they got into and the consciousness that this trip gradually awoke in them as they came face to face with the reality of this continent.
